The West Pier is historically, architecturally and scientifically unique. The Pier was hit by a bomb in World War Two and after WWII- it was repaired and brought back into public use, but essential renovation work wasn't carried out and the pier fell into disrepair. In 1970 the southern end was closed to the public and was shut altogether in 1975. When you’re at the beach, take a close look at it.

In the summer, you will find a lot of students at Brighton’s beach, as this area is a great place to go swimming, surfing, sailing, basketball, volleyball, skateboarding and lots of of other outdoor activities. Apart from the water, there are plenty of spectator sports. Students go to enjoy a day at Brighton Races or a night at Brighton Greyhound stadium, or even take the Brighton Walks tour. There are two possibilities. You either take  a Ghost Walk or Legends of the Lanes walk. The South Downs area of the city is excellent for cycling and walking. Throughout the year, there are hundreds of events ranging from the famous London to Brighton RAC Veteran Car Run as well as the National Speed Trials up to power boat racing and kite festivals.
